Carlos Vaz Marques was born in Lisbon in 1964. A professional journalist since 1987, he has been a member of the TSF newsroom since 1990. He began his career in journalism on the editorial staff of JL – Jornal de Letras, Artes e Ideias, and also worked on the editorial staff of the former weekly O Jornal.

He studied Modern Languages and Literatures – Portuguese/French variant, at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Before becoming a professional journalist, he was a secondary school teacher for two years. At TSF, he has held a wide variety of positions. Since 2008, he has moderated the program Governo Sombra.

He has published three books of interviews and translated more than a dozen literary works. He is  responsible for Tinta-da-China’s collection of travel literature and directed the literary magazine “Granta”.
