She holds a degree in Modern Languages and Literatures (Portuguese/English) from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Lisbon (Universidade Clássica de Lisboa). She completed a postgraduate degree in Multimedia. She was a literary consultant, alongside Afonso Praça, for the RTP2 program Quem Conta um Conto (1995), hosted by Mário Zambujal and Rita Ferro.
A certified Portuguese teacher, she taught secondary education at Colégio de S. José — Quinta do Ramalhão, in Sintra. She was editorial coordinator at Oficina do Livro (2001–08), and worked as executive editor at Planeta (2008–10) and Clube do Autor (2010–2017). In 2017, she opened the bookstore-bar Menina e Moça in Lisbon, in Cais do Sodré, and two years later in Porto, in Jardim da Cordoaria. She was the moderator of the program Original é a Cultura, a partnership between SPA and SIC, alongside writer Dulce Maria Cardoso, physicist Carlos Fiolhais, and musicologist Rui Vieira Nery.
