Nuno Markl is a Portuguese comedian, radio host and bestselling author renowned for turning bizarre real news into cultural phenomena. He launched the popular radio segment “O Homem que Mordeu o Cão” in 1997 on Rádio Comercial, which led to several books including O Homem que Mordeu o Cão (2002), O Regresso d’o Homem que Mordeu o Cão (2003), A Revolução (2004), and many later satirical editions. The franchise expanded into live shows, a TV programme and even a board game.
He has authored other notable titles such as Há Vida em Markl (2007), Caderneta de Cromos ContraAtaca (2011), Miopia e Astigmatismo (2013), and Manual de Instruções with Miguel Jorge (2023) among others.
Besides writing, Markl is a creator of cultural platforms like the “Há Vida em Markl” segment – which spawned a book, blog and weekly cartoon in the satirical supplement Inimigo Público – and “Caderneta de Cromos.” He is a prominent figure in Portuguese pop culture, transitioning from radio to television with the comedy series 1986 (2018) and TV shows such as Os Contemporâneos. He frequently integrates his love for graphic novels, geek culture and storytelling across his literary and audiovisual work.
