Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is a Portuguese politician, legal scholar, and professor who served as the President of Portugal from 2016 to 2026. A graduate in Law from the University of Lisbon, he built a distinguished academic career in constitutional and administrative law while also becoming one of Portugal’s best-known political commentators. A long-time member of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), he served as party leader from 1996 to 1999 before returning to academic and public life.
