The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, honored seven people this Thursday at the Belém Palace, including Maria Antónia Palla, with the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of Liberty.

In the same ceremony, the head of state posthumously decorated Pedro Jorge de Canha Sobral with the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry, who was received by Patrícia Vaz Vilar, the honoree’s widow. Pedro Sobral, born in Coimbra, ran the LeYa publishing group and was president of the Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers. He died at the age of 51 in Lisbon last December, after being run over while cycling.
