Ana Maria Magalhães was born in Lisbon in 1946. She graduated in Philosophy from the Faculdade de Letras of the University of Lisbon, and became, since 1969, a Portuguese and History teacher in preparatory education. She had a very active teaching career participating in the Education System Reform between 1989 and 1991 and later conducting a study on young people and reading for the Educational Innovation Institute. She became a writer of junior and children’s literature in 1982, the same year when the Uma Aventura (An Adventure) collection was inaugurated, which she still writes today, in partnership with Isabel Alçada.
